About Samantha
When I was in elementary school I received one of the best gifts any girl could want - an Easy Bake Oven. I immediately baked all the mixes that came with that oven. I can remember my parents frequently taking me to buy more mixes to prepare and bake. Even as a child, it gave me much joy to share these baked goods with my family. The problem was that a light bulb in a child’s oven cannot bake very much at a time. I was disappointed when I could not bake fast enough to share with all of my family.
As I became a teenager, my desire to bake continued. I found myself asking to make baked goods for any gathering that went on at my house. I began testing out recipes from scratch and making my own renditions of recipes I found online or in my grandma’s cook books.
As a young adult, I had the desire to experiment with decorating. I began by tinting store bought frosting with food coloring and using Ziploc bags to attempt piping. I then began to make my own buttercream and purchase some professional baking supplies. I watched tutorials online and my love of baking continued to flourish.
I enjoyed baking so much that I would ask family members if I could make the dessert (often cupcakes) for any party that they were having. Sometimes my family would make specific requests such as the cake, icing, or decorations, and sometimes they would leave the creativity up to me. It wasn't long before people (some that I know and some I didn't) began to tell me that I should be selling my baked goods. The idea seemed far fetched to me.
It was in April of 2014, that I that I really felt like selling my sweets could be possible. I was asked to make 100 lady bug themed cupcakes and 100 double pretzel favors with a red accent color for a baby shower. It required a great deal of planning, shopping, and time management all while I continued to work full-time. The baby shower was wonderful and my sweets were a success.
I began to entertain the idea of starting Sweets by Samantha. This idea became a reality in June 2014. As I began to prepare for my departure from my full-time job, I spent more time developing Sweets by Samantha by recording my recipes, purchasing more supplies, and marketing.
You can go back on my Instagram and see all of my creations over the years.
In 2018, I first became a mom and did not have the capacity to continue Sweets by Samantha. Putting my family first, I closed with the dream of reopening sometime in the future.
After moving to Florida in 2022, I discovered the lack of panaderias (Mexican bakeries). I could find them just about anywhere in California, but now had trouble finding what I wanted when I wanted it. I knew that's when I needed to shift my focus from my signature cupcakes to my favorite pan dulces and dulces enchilados. I've been working hard at perfecting these recipes and am finally ready to share them with you!
For any upcoming occasion - party, holidays, or just a Tuesday afternoon - Sweets by Samantha is here for you!
